UNESCO Advisory Board Meeting – International Hydrological Programme – Water and Human Settlements

Arjun Thapan chaired the 4th meeting of the UNESCO Advisory Board for its International Hydrological Programme – Water and Human Settlements, in Paris from 7-10 March 2017.  Members of the Board comprise representatives from water utilities, academia, the NGO community, think tanks, and research organizations. The Board reviewed a variety of topics for UNESCO to frame its urban water agenda. These included: the application of the Water-Food-Energy nexus framework to resolving urban water issues; defining the ‘water engineer of the future’; technology and education in solving the urban water crisis; ‘disruptive’ communications; and establishing hydro-observatories. Papers on these subjects will be prepared by groups of Board members for review and adoption by UNESCO as its core programme.
