Dismal Water Future for Half the Urban World

This well-researched article confirms our worst fears. Almost half the urban world will be living in water scarcity scenarios by 2050. There are solutions including reducing water losses, reducing demand, developing new water sources, accessing groundwater, desalination, etc. But, as the paper argues, all of these have impacts on ecology, economies, and social equity. Managing these impacts and mitigating their consequences will be the way to sustaining the world’s future urban economies.
