First WaterLinks-Xylem Training Effort!
Introduction to Non-revenue Water Management
Non-revenue water is a major urban water issue in the Philippines. While there is no officially reliable estimate of the volume, and value, of treated water, lost, it is very likely in the range of 30-50%. Its impact on economic growth and social equity in an era of climate change and rapid growth in demand is significant.
The WaterLinks-Xylem partnership organized its first introductory program on NRW Management in partnership with the Philippine Association of Water Districts from 10-12 July 2019 at the Richmonde Hotel. There were 49 participants for 23 Category A water districts. The program was oversubscribed and we had to turn away 10 prospective participants. A combination of lectures, hands-on learning, technology demonstration, product presentation on smart water analytics, leak detection repair, and leak prevention was at the heart of the program. The faculty included staff from Xylem, Maynilad, and Miya International.
WaterLinks and Xylem committed to supporting the water districts to help improve their NRW management initiatives. Given the interest and enthusiasm, we are thinking of designing an advanced program for the participants of the introductory program to help them set up and operate NRW management units in their utilities.
