2011 WaterLinks Award

On November 22, 2011, WaterLinks presented the 2011 WaterLinks Awards to two partnerships that achieved significant milestones on enabling improved access to water services and on the scaling-up of good practices to further improve access to services. 

The Provincial Waterworks Authority of Thailand and its partner the Korea Water Resources Corporation claimed the Award on Outcome.  The two collaborated to enhance water quality management practices and optimize water treatment and distribution operations, resulting in more than 100,000 people in Khon Khaen, Thailand, to be better protected against potential waterborne diseases. The Award on Scale-Up and Replication went to the Palembang City Water Supply Company (PDAM Kota Palembang) of Indonesia and its partner the Penang Water Supply Company (PBAPP) of Malaysia.  The PDAM and PBABB paired to facilitate the conversion from intermittent to continuous water supply in Palembang City, starting from one pilot are with 5,000 people and expanding to 36 areas with 200,000 people.  For more information about the partnership, visit http://waterlinks.org/partnerships/palembang-pbapp-continuous-water-supply

Successful factors of these partnerships included commitment and willingness to share knowledge and cooperate for more than 18 months, and to contribute resources both in-kind and in capital investments amounting to more than $700,000.
