On January 28, 2010, USAID Environmental Cooperation-Asia (ECO-Asia) launched the report, “A Rapid Assessment of Septage Management in Asia”, at the Second East Asian Ministerial Conference on Sanitation and Hygiene in Manila. The report provides an assessment on how key Asian countries are addressing septage, the material that accumulates in septic tanks and one of the most common – and least managed – forms of urban sanitation in Asia. The assessment provides a roadmap for countries and regional organizations to strengthen septage management practices, and replicate good practices in the region. Target countries included India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
