Training on Strengthening Community Partnership and Accelerating Service Delivery

Date:
2010, February

From February 1-4, 2010, two staff representing Maynilad Water Services and its NGO partner, Streams of Knowledge provided training to Medan on community partnerships and assessed the progress of Medan's program to expand access to the urban poor.  Streams of Knowledge and Maynilad jointly presented how they have partnered in Manila and provided a road map for how they have connected low income communities where land title is in dispute, by giving Streams and the community full responsibility for water supplies after a bulk meter on the edge of an area.  They also worked together to empower the community based organizations that will be managing water supplies and assisted to them to better articulate their role and vision.  Finally the partners from the Philippines, witnessed the first batch of connections that were opened under the 2009-2010 Water for the poor program and suggested ways to speed delivery and improve the management of piped water services.
