B. Observe how they view and open the material.

C. Ask general questions about the material as a whole.
General Questions about the “Material”
1. In your words, tell me what the “material” says/is talking about?
2. What do you think of the “material”?
3. Is there anything you like or don’t like about the “material”?
4. How would you improve the “material”?

D. Look at individual pages (picture and text together) and ask page-specific questions.

Page-Specific Questions

LOOK AT THE PICTURE:
5. What do you see in the picture?
6. What is happening?
7. What do you think the picture is about?

READ THE TEXT ALOUD:
8. What do the words mean to you?
9. Do the words explain the picture?
10. How do you feel about the message?  The words?  The picture?
11. Tell me the message in your own words.

EXPLAIN THE INTENDED MESSAGE:
12. What would you change to make the message clearer?  The text?  The picture?

WHEN FINISHED WITH ENTIRE “MATERIAL”:
13. What do you think about the “material”?
14. Is there anything you like?  What?  Why?
15. Is there anything you don’t like?  What?  Why?
16. How would you improve the “material”?

IF THE “MATERIAL” GIVES INSTRUCTIONS/TALKS ABOUT EXPERIENCE/HAS SPECIFIC WORDS THAT MIGHT EASILY BE MISUNDERSTOOD ASK THE FOLLOWING ALSO:
17. Please go through the instructions for me, are they clear?  Why?  Why not?  (Is it possible for them to repeat the instructions in their own words or carry out the instructions?)
18. Does “the experience cited” agree with what you have experienced or you have heard others talk about? What?  Why?  Why not?
