An ideal behavior is the behavior that would generate the best possible results for the target audience. This behavior should correspond to an internationally agreed upon ‘Standard of Excellence.’ For example, the World Health Organization recommends the following ideal hand washing practice: Wash hands with soap and air dry at the 5 critical times, i.e. (1) before eating, (2) after handling child’s feces, (3) before preparing food, (4) before feeding a child, (5) after defecating.

An ideal behavior is one that would generate the best possible results for the target audience. This/these behavior(s) should correspond to an internationally developed and agreed upon standard of excellence. For example, the World Organization has established the following ideal hand washing behaviors: wash hands with soap and clean water and dry with a clean towel at five critical times – after using the latrine, after disposing of feces, before preparing food, before eating and before feeding an infant. Ideal behaviors can be identified by using the appropriate international organization’s resources, libraries, websites and experts. It is best to use what has been listed internationally, as these behaviors will have been widely agreed upon, will have specific rationale presented, and will have worldwide acceptance.
