To conclude their water operator partnership with Tirtanadi, Maynilad Water Services of the Philippines assisted their counterparts in organizing a lessons-learned workshop on April 20, 2010, in Medan, Indonesia. The workshop brought together 40 city stakeholders, who reviewed experiences on community outreach, technical coordination, and financial sustainability learned during this year’s effort to connect the poor. In a subsequent training-of-trainers workshop on April 21-22, the community organizations that supported last year’s mobilization trained representatives from various community based organizations on the management of community level water supply systems. Medan is now completing household connections for 17,500 people and plans to reach an additional 70,000 low-income residents by the end of 2013.
