USAID facilitated a twinning partnership between Ranhill Utilities Berhad of Malaysia and Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) of India to support MJP’s plans for achieving continuous water supply services and maintaining safe water quality for the residents of Badlapur, India. In the city MJP carried out extensive preparatory work for conversion to continuous water supply for seven out of 34 municipal wards. MJP has sufficient design capabilities, but lacked the implementation and operating skills required for conversion to continuous water supply systems. In the partnership, Ranhill shared its core skills and expertise to build MJP capacity in: 1) operating and sustaining continuous water supply schemes using district meter area (DMA) management; 2) replicating similar operations to other towns under MJP; 3) performing a water audit; 4) managing water losses (leakage detection, pressure management, etc); and 5) optimizing water treatment system processes.
