On January 29, 2010, Indah Water Konsortium, Malaysia’s leading wastewater services provider, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Maynilad Water Services, Inc., the water and wastewater concessionaire for the western half of Metro Manila. The MOU was signed at the East Asia Sanitation Summit in Manila. The partners agreed to a plan to build Maynilad’s capacity to plan, design, and build combined sewage and stormwater collection and treatment systems. The twinning partnership will also build Maynilad’s ability to conduct a promotion campaign to raise household willingness to connect to existing dedicated sewer lines. The partnership is expected to improve wastewater services for an estimated 54,000 people. USAID supports this WaterLinks partnership through its Environmental Cooperation-Asia (ECO-Asia) program.
