Provincial Waterworks Authority
The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) manages water supply for all urban areas in Thailand, with the exception of Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakarn. With 228 waterworks, PWA provides water supply via roughly 2.7 million connections in five regional zones. However, public health in one of PWA’s service areas in Nakorn Nayok is at risk due to high manganese levels and low chlorine residual levels in the water supply that impact nearly 2,300 households. To address this problem, PWA sought assistance from peer practitioners to strengthen its water quality management program and optimize water treatment plants under the World Health Organization’s Water Safety Plan framework.
